Many students discover that they have multiple passions. The bachelor of science in music and an outside field is for those who want to build their expertise in the field of music while also pursuing another field. Students may also select music technology as a field.

Music with a Concentration in an Outside Field (B.S.M.)

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this degree, students will be able to demonstrate the following learning outcomes:

  • Competence in another field outside music by completing 27–30 credit hours of intensive study and earning a minor in that discipline; an outside field can be pursued in any discipline that offers a minor at Purdue Fort Wayne, with the course sequence determined in collaboration with an advisor in the outside field

To earn the B.S. in music with a concentration in music technology or another outside field, the student must satisfy the requirements of Purdue im体育 Fort Wayne (Regulations) and the music core, and complete the courses prescribed for the concentration with a grade of C− or better in each music and concentration course.

Upon completion of this degree, all School of Music students will be able to demonstrate the following learning outcomes:

  • Knowledge of music theory sufficient to analyze musical forms, structures, and styles to create within basic musical structures; and to relate theoretical concepts to sound
  • Performance ability as ensemble members, as conductors, and as soloists on both a primary instrument and a secondary instrument
  • Knowledge of history and literature of Western and non-Western music, with an understanding of the social, political, and cultural impacts that shaped music history
  • Proficiency in utilizing appropriate technology to notate and create music, to investigate and report scholarly research, and to support the specific demands of the professional degrees
